[App Review] Call Of Duty: World At War: Zombies 05/22/10

Call of Duty: World at War Zombies (COD: Zombies) with the Verrückt map pack costs $9.99 (actual game) + $4.99 (map), which is definitely worth it.

COD: Zombies is yet another zombie survival game, this time putting you in the first perspective, and with firearms.

In this game, you attempt to survive a zombie invasion. You barricade your windows, open up new areas, and buy new weapons. If you played the console versions, you would know what I’m talking about.

The gameplay is simple, but addictive. Once you pick the game up, get into a good team (if playing online) and get into the later levels, the only reason you would want to put your iPod Touch/iPhone would be either there isn’t much batteries left, or you ragequitted due to annoying teammates. You simply just shoot, barricade, unlock, shoot, barricade, etc.

The game actually has no end. You just keep playing, finding new challenges, new people to play with and new maps.

The graphics are terrific. I play with a medium quality level (never got around to change it) and there is still an amazing level of detail put into every little bit of background and character models.

Oh boy, the only part COD: Zombies needs to work on are the controls. It takes quite a long time to get used to the controls. You have 3 different choices and I’ve tried all three and I still have auto aim on high. However, once you get used to the controls, the gameplay really starts to pick up.

The game has a tutorial, which is always nice. I usually just skip it, but there is an achievement that has something to do with the tutorial, so I went back to it. The only flaw when it comes to UI is the online play. You can’t find servers with a list like most games, the game just searches for a host. Also, I hate playing a 2 player co-op game. It ruins the fun. The host should be able to start the game when he feels like it.

As for creativity, I find that if you haven’t played the console version, it is very creative. If you own the console version, I would recommend that you don’t get this app unless you want to play it on the go.

The new map pack simply adds to the fun by adding new features. More map packs are sure to come in the future, more the reason to get this game.

All in all, COD: Zombies is a terrific game and is definitely worth its high price.
