[Featured App Review] Big Mountain Snowboarding 06/05/10

Big Mountain Snowboarding by Golden Hammer Software is a 3D snowboarding app available for $1.99 in the app store.

Hey, I love snowboarding games and I love OpenFeint games. Look at the picture for me, will ya?

See, this game caught my interest. Shocker.

This game has a landscape and portrait mode. If you think - hold on (I had the game open just before a ride starts and it tells you to touch the screen to start - the sound is SOOOOOO annoying) - that that is good, then you're wrong. The only thing it does is rotate meaning the game is optimized for portrait mode and if you go landscape, it gets stretched. Bad. That's a minus for graphics. Oh, did I mention the graphics suck?

Now if you would just look to the left and right. Now the game has 12 different runs where you can score points to unlock the runs. You can only play one when you start. The controls are easy but they're also unresponsive. For example, when you start a turn by accident and you want to turn the other way, tough luck.

I feel that the game is good BUT the aspects are not (graphics suck, crap sound).
So let's total it up.

Graphics: 3/5: The game is plain ugly.
UI: 3.5/5: Pointing it out again, ugly.
Gameplay: 5/5: Love 3D Snowboarding games.
Creativity: 3.5/5: Done before. But, not this way.
Sound: 2.5/5: Good in the menu, crap in gameplay.
Controls: 3.5/5: Like I said, unresponsive.
Difficulty: 3.5/5: Totally.
Length: 4/5: 12 runs.
Entertainment: 4.5/5: Snowboarding. That's all I have to say.
Value: 4/5: $1.99.
Total: 32.5/50 or 65% (I might've made a math mistake somewhere)
