[Featured App Review] Hyperbowl
Hyperbowl by Technicat is a 3D bowling game adapted from an original PC version available on the iTunes App Store for $2.99. (iPhone, iPod and iPad)
First impressions? There are 4 iPhone OS Hyperbowl apps (all by Technicat). 3 individual lanes, and this app which has all lanes. All 4 apps have this bland black and white icon that makes it impossible to tell from one another. The graphics when you first open the game kinda suck and there is no music in the menu, just a cliche sound effect. As you know, first impressions mean everything.

[Featured App Review] Marbles Multiball 3D - The Castle Adventure
Marbles Multiball 3D - The Castle Adventure by Mad Processor Games is an amazing spin on a traditional labyrinth game available on the iTunes app store for the measly price of $0.99.
Now this is what you get. An uber long clumped review after not writing one for so long. Enjoy.
So, first impressions? Sinister. Considering the loading and pre-menu sounds, I was actually a little scared. But then, I heard the music in the menu and I felt good. The music was amazing. Another point that I'd like to bring up is that it is in HD for iPad, which is automatically included in the app. So, you get two versions of the game, HD and SD for $0.99.

- Very accurate accelerometer control makes controlling the game completely intuitive. And you can even play it upside down! Either way you play, please point the back of the device to the floor or the ceiling for optimal control.
- Great sound effects and soundtrack
- Highly accurate physics simulation
It's true. When I started to play the game, I enjoyed how it wasn't a normal labyrinth but instead, colourful, detailed and just plain awesome. When I tilted my iPod, the amount of interaction with the player and the background and the ball amazed me.
So, for all you other labyrinth games, you could follow in Marbles Multiball 3D - The Castle Adventure's footsteps.
If you haven't done so, check out Parcel Panic 3D by Mad Processor Games. The graphics in that game are amazing. The fact that the developer creates such detailed games that must've taken forever to make and offers them for $0.99 inspires me. For example, Call Of Duty 1 and 2 ($4.99 as in-app purchase) are $9.99 each. It's a game where you try to survive as long as possible. Usually not very difficult to develop. Being up tp $19.98, it is a rip-off (but still fun) whereas the Mad Processor games are $1.98 in total and offer way more fun in the form of missions and graphics and sounds and pretty much every aspect of the game.
Oh, by the way, did I mention that when you start playing the game, the sounds are sinister again? One problem I had with the game is that it is too sensitive. So, take your pick. Sensitivity or interaction. Let's total it.

[Featured App Review] MyTP Snowboarding 06/07/10
MyTP Snowboarding by Randerline is a 3D snowboarding game available in the app store for $1.99.
I’ll introduce this game. It is simply a corrupted snowboarding game.
Firstly, the graphics are very blocky and a lot like the original Star Fox (I’m exaggerating) and nothing in this game is detailed. It is as if they went to Microsoft Paint and colored it.
Then you have the gameplay. That is also broken. Doing tricks is very boring and tedious. The challenges have very high scores that you need to pass, and getting them is hard. I find it easier to sit in the edge and just jump until you get enough points.
The controls are absolutely atrocious. Turning is impossible and delayed. When you turn, you have enough time to do your homework, play a good round of Call Of Duty: World at War: Zombies, and have a sandwich. Doing tricks is also very annoying since half the time, the game registers the trick you did as incorrect.
Honestly, I actually find this game entertaining. Why? Because of all the glitches that this game has. Once, the guy had his head in the snow and was still going, twice the guy was flying in the air and I racked up a lot of points and you can even snowboard backwards.
The game has no tutorial. All it has is some stupid screen that shows you what tricks you can do.
Sound? What sound? All I hear is some cheesy snowboard sliding across some snow. There’s one track that only plays when you are selecting your stuff.
The length of the game is too short. Why? Well, since the game sucks so hard, you will be exiting your iPod too quickly.
For even $1.99, this game is not worth it. No matter how low the price of the game gets, don’t buy it, not even if they pay you. It is a complete waste of space. The only reason this game is not getting all 1’s is because of the fun I had glitching.
Graphics: 2/5
UI: 3.5/5
Gameplay: 3.5/5.
Creativity: 1/5
Sound: 2.5/5
Controls: 2.5/5
Difficulty: 3/5
Length: 2/5
Entertainment: 4/5
Value: 3/5
Total: 27/50 or 54%. Good game with a good concept but it could be pulled off bette

[Featured App Review] Deer Hunter 3D 06/05/10
Deer Hunter 3D by Glu Mobile is a 3D Deer Hunting game available in the app store for $1.99 (on sale for $0.99). Who would've known?
A while back, FreeAppADay had Real Deer Hunter as its free app of the day. I got it and tried it. In two words: it sucked.
So, knowing nothing about Glu's adaptation of a deer hunting game, I had low (like REALLY low) expectations of the game. One Victoria Day, I was coming back from Niagara Falls and decided to give it a try. And bam. I fell in love.
It was that good. The interface and game is nice and clean (way more than you could say for that other deer hunting game and way way more than you could say about most games).
There are four different locations to choose from with four difficulties and thirteen (THIRTEEN) different weapons. What I liked about the game is being able to choose where you hunt and follow deer. I find that adds a nice touch of life to a game focused around death. Plus, it's way better than the hunt button from that other deer hunting game. (Yes, I hated that one really much.)
When you're hunting, it's almost real. The graphics are very detailed (see the trees). Again, way better than the pixelated landscape crap you get with THE OTHER DEER HUNTING GAME. (Again, I refuse to call it by it's real name).
So, if I love it [Deer Hunter 3D], how does it total?
Graphics: 5/5: Damn sexy.
UI: 5/5: Awesome, what do you expect from Glu?
Gameplay: 5/5: Way better than that other crap.
Creativity: 4/5: Done before.Sound: 5/5: Amazing sound.
Controls: 5/5: Really good.
Difficulty: 3.5/5: Not really.
Length: 5/5: As long as you want, baby.
Entertainment: 4.5/5: 3D Deer Hunting. That's all I have to say.
Value: 5/5: Totally worth it.
Total: 47/50 or 94%: Pure genius.
Dennis[Featured App Review] Big Mountain Snowboarding 06/05/10
Big Mountain Snowboarding by Golden Hammer Software is a 3D snowboarding app available for $1.99 in the app store.
Hey, I love snowboarding games and I love OpenFeint games. Look at the picture for me, will ya?
See, this game caught my interest. Shocker.
This game has a landscape and portrait mode. If you think - hold on (I had the game open just before a ride starts and it tells you to touch the screen to start - the sound is SOOOOOO annoying) - that that is good, then you're wrong. The only thing it does is rotate meaning the game is optimized for portrait mode and if you go landscape, it gets stretched. Bad. That's a minus for graphics. Oh, did I mention the graphics suck?
Now if you would just look to the left and right. Now the game has 12 different runs where you can score points to unlock the runs. You can only play one when you start. The controls are easy but they're also unresponsive. For example, when you start a turn by accident and you want to turn the other way, tough luck.
I feel that the game is good BUT the aspects are not (graphics suck, crap sound).
So let's total it up.
Sound: 2.5/5: Good in the menu, crap in gameplay.
Controls: 3.5/5: Like I said, unresponsive.
Difficulty: 3.5/5: Totally.
Length: 4/5: 12 runs.
Entertainment: 4.5/5: Snowboarding. That's all I have to say.
