[Featured App Review] Supermarket Management 04/27/10

Thank you G5E for the promo code to this app!
Supermarket Management is a time management created by G5 Entertainment to wreak havoc on your social life and job [just kidding ;)] that is available for $2.99 (at the moment). But, in all seriousness, I had lost count of all the levels - literally. I started by opening the app and pressing play... 1, 2, 3... after 2 minutes, I had gotten to 15 (they were so crowded together; there were that many!) because I had lost count numerous times. I then picked up my iPod and I smashed it and called G5E and asked them to reimburse me [again, just kidding ;)].
The game is beyond addicting... it's like doing [censored drug reference]. But... more healthy. In this uber time management game, you are hired by your boss to take control of a whole supermarket. One person controlling a whole supermarket. That level of frustration and confusion makes the game an epic hurricane of FUN. I did not put my iPod down. FOR A LONG TIME. I just kept passing through all the levels cussing whenever I screwed up (which was quite frequent).
I have had this app for a week now and I still have not completed it which is quite a bargain for the price of $2.99! As you pass through those uncountable levels (must've been lots of hard work for both you and G5E), the game gets tougher with food samples, cake machines, etc. and frankly, quite lazy staffers (cashier lady, I'm referring to YOU). Tougher gameplay means more AWESOMENESS =P.
Time to get FREAKY! The graphics were okay... not "Avatar" graphics but pretty good. User interface was a-ma-zing! Entertainment/gameplay: tough = fun. Creativity: Just like for Jane's Hotel, it's been done before.
Graphics: 3.5/5
UI: 4.5/5
Gameplay: 5/5
Creativity: 2.5/5
Our rating: 4.5 out of freakin' 5.
Overall: 20/25 or 80%.
We definitely recommend this app.

[Featured App Review] Jane's Hotel 04/26/10

Thank you G5E for the promo code to this app!
Jane’s Hotel is a time management created by G5 Entertainment to please your soul and it did just that for only $2.99 (at the moment). Once I opened the app, the home button wasn’t pressed until 3:00 in the morning, and I started at 7:00 the morning before that. You may be thinking “Get a life nerd!” but you should reconsider once you've actually played the game. I bet you would be playing that game with a cup of coffee in the middle of night.
This game is like most time management games, where you have to keep a sharp eye for many things. Especially once you start to progress further into the game, you would have to keep an eye out for tables, flowers, TVs, etc. It is, however, manageable so we can still finish the game even if you have slow reflexes. As you advance into the game, your hotel gets bigger and gets more stars. You know what that means, *Drum Roll Please*, more challenging levels!
The game is quite smooth, great user interface, good graphics, and many other greats. The only thing I could say was a flaw was that at level 1-7, I couldn’t get the keys to give to the guy for a certain period of the time. It was really frustrating…until I passed. Other than that, there are still 39 levels of awesomeness. The only other thing I can say is that their taste in animated girls is great. But... as for creativity, it's been done before.
Graphics: 4/5
UI: 4.5/5
Entertainment: 4.5/5
Gameplay: 5/5
Creativity: 2.5/5
Overall: 21/25 or 84%
Awesome!

[App Review] Plants vs. Zombies 04/25/10

“Plants vs. Zombies” by Pop Cap Games is a very entertaining game available in the app store for $4.99.
Plants vs. Zombies is almost your typical tower defense game where you set your defense on the path of your enemy, however, the different types of zombies and different types of plants really make up for the usual tower defense along with a few more twists.
Basically, you are a person who is protecting yourself from zombies trying to eat your brains. To protect yourself, you must plant flowers, mushrooms and various other plants. Yes, the story isn’t the greatest; however, the gameplay makes up for it.
The gameplay is the same as TapDefense and games like that sort, only you have to protect 5 paths. Doing so isn’t very difficult if you pick the right plants and you have the right stategy. You are armed with 49 plants, some of which you will have to buy. The game offers lots of variety as each time you will encounter zombies that come from different paths.
The zombies come in waves. Once you finish one wave, you have to fight the next, until the final wave. After most levels, you get a new plant to try out, mostly because there will be a zombie that has a weakness of that new plant. Before starting a level, you get to choose what plants you want. Some plants are upgradeable and you can get more slots for the amount of plants you can have per level.
The game is fairly short, lasting only about 50 levels, which for me would be about 5-10 hours, but then you have minigames, and achievements that can be quite difficult to get, such as going through a whole level without using your main defense plant.
The graphics are not outstanding. It is simply a standard iPod game with nothing fancy.
The controls are flawless. There isn’t a single flaw I could find. You could either drag your plants or tap on your plant and then where you want to plant it.
Plants vs. Zombies is very fun, but putting it down and doing something else if fairly easy to do. It is not the newest installment of Halo, but can definitely waste your time quickly.
For a PC to iPod crossover, Plants vs. Zombies is a fantastic game. If you like the PC version or just want a fun game to play, this is it. For only $4.99, it is definitely worth getting.
Graphics: 3/5
Entertainment: 4/5
Gameplay: 5/5
Addictingness: 3/5
User Interface: 5/5
Total: 20/25 or 4/5 (80%)

[App Review] Music God 04/24/10

Music God by icoderz is an app that analyzes your music tags and shows information about your music library. This app is currently available in the app store for $4.99.
This app? Actually pretty good. It shows stuff about your music library you otherwise would've never knew about. Such as how much it costs, how long of a shelf you need for your music library, the weight in tapes, etc. There is a LOOOONG list of what it does all in a nice user friendly interface. In addition, the speed in which it analyzes a library (mine is about 460 songs so it took about 20 seconds) absolutely surprised me.
One if the things it showed me is "Why do you have this song". Of course, that song was a free iTunes song as I listen to most music I download. But I never bothered to delete them. I did so once then I synced my iPod and it's like "You have something on your iPod that's not in your library" crap etc. so I pressed sync or whatever it was and it added all of the songs back. But I digress. This app did impress me. More than iTouchTheTruck that's for sure.
Graphics weren't bad but they couldn't have possibly been good. It's not a game. Entertainment: Meh? User Interface was STUNNING =). Gameplay: We really should change the categories for different apps. Same goes for addictingness. Definitely props for creativity. The name is a little misleading though...
Graphics: 3.5/5
UI: 5/5
Entertainment: Meh?/5
Gameplay/Purpose: 4.5/5
Addictingness: 3/5
Creativity: 5/5.
Total: 21/25 or 82%.
